Listen Up, Pup! is a Brooklyn-based dog training service that uses positive reinforcement methods to train our four-legged family members. It’s owned by Mary Cella, CPDT-KA. Mary believes training should be fun and that it’s the best way to strengthen your bond with your pet, so she's committed to using force-free methods. Her goals are to help create a shared language that you and your dog can use to communicate, to guide you through teaching your pup good manners, and to address even the most challenging behaviors with science-based training techniques and lots of compassion. Mary specializes in training young puppies and socializing them to our chaotic urban environment, and in training adolescent dogs who exhibit challenging behaviors, particularly outside in our, you guessed it, chaotic urban environment. If you have a new puppy or an angsty teen who’s increasingly difficult to walk on leash, Mary is the trainer for you!

About this Lister

Mary Cella is a lifelong dog lover based in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn who has been working with dogs professionally since 2017. She’s a graduate of Tufts University and before working with dogs, she was a television news producer who covered animal rights issues (and true crime, back when it was still trashy). She’s committed to using only science-based positive reinforcement methods and is passionate about teaching clients how to train their dogs without the use of force or aversive methods of any kind. She specializes in working with young dogs, from brand-new puppies to rebellious teenagers. She’s available for private training sessions in Brooklyn, lower Manhattan and Southwestern Queens.

Background and Expertise

Mary Cella is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA), is an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and graduated from the International School for Certified Dog Trainers as a Certified Dog Trainer - Comprehension (CDT-C).
