One unfurnished bedroom available in 3br/1ba Crown Heights apartment on the 3rd floor of a 5-floor walk-up building with ~20 units.

Room: Rent is $1000/mo plus utilities $40-60 monthly, (electric, cooking gas & wifi). The room is 12'x15' and fits a queen (or king!) size bed, desk, dresser and armoire with plenty of space. There is one small closet in the room, and there's lots of room for other storage solutions. The three windows of the room face into an alley between two buildings. The room gets decent indirect light in the afternoons, and the common room gets direct afternoon sun. There is a steam radiator and the window is compatible for a window AC unit.

Location: Nostrand Ave A/C, 2,3, B44SBS. There is a laundromat 3 short blocks away, Brower Park and public library two blocks away, and Prospect Park ~25 minute walk away! The roof is accessible via the building's staircase and has a nice picnic bench.

Seeking: An open-hearted, easy-going roommate interested in building community and fostering a home environment with clear communication. Doesn’t feel stressed out by people being in the common space, as we’re often there when we’re home. Comfortable with visitors when communicated and open to connecting with new people. Conscious of cleanliness and maintaining shared space; considerate, communicative, interested in/have had previous experience with communal/cooperative living, and/or living with a dog. Ready to apply for the lease application with either the requisite income or a guarantor. A deposit and first month’s rent is expected to secure. No couples please.

WHO WE ARE

Our Home: This is a socially conscious, sex positive, crafty, and clean/comfy home where we are finding better ways of moving through the world in our own individual ways. We are both in our late-20s/early-30s, though we welcome roommates of any age. The strength of our community depends upon honest, direct communication. We try to connect at least once a month to check-in about our collective living and share a meal/positive experience. We do not tolerate any racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia in our home. We love biking, the occasional dinner party, and going to the beach/park. We cook together sometimes, but mainly on our own, and most kitchen/home supply basics are shared, including compost bin. The common space is kept very tidy: we commit to the shared responsibility of deep cleaning, and indulge in redecorating regularly. Han works from home about 25% of the week (Mondays/Fridays), but is often out of the house when free. Mooby (dog, see below) comes with when weather permits. Lauren’s schedule is work and class-dependent.

About This Lister

Han (they/she) is a queer environmentalist artist, performer, nanny, and organizer supporting community garden groups and other things at the intersection of arts and social change throughout Brooklyn. Lived in NYC for 5+ years, (3+ in this building) values collective living, transparency, process optimization, healing, stewardship, community building, laughter, and play. Home is primarily my resting/growing space. Engaged with most neighbors and local residents. Vegetarian. Asthma and allergies, uses HEPA filter and cleans regularly. Unfortunately, cannot be around cats. Comes with a sweet, snuggly 10-lb chihuahua/rat terrier mix rescue named Mooby.

Mooby: 5 years old, rescued 1 year ago in March. Partially hairless, he has a wardrobe, is on the anxious side but warms up quickly. Normally attached to Han or sleeping. Only vocal about the vacuum & new guests (work in progress). Walks 3 times a day, eats twice. No accidents in the house to date.

Lauren (she/her) is an artist and wildfire fighter, who travels often for work during late summer and fall. She is currently in Barcelona at an Artist Residency program until June. When not traveling, she likes to relax at home, make art, bicycle, and hang with friends. Lived in NYC 2 years+, 1+ in this building.

How this Works:

- The interview will take place at the house, FaceTime, or Zoom/other video platform with Han, 20min-1hr.
- During the interview we will communicate which date we are committing to making our decision by.
- Han will confer with Lauren, who may wish to e-meet, if able given schedule
- We will notify all interviewed applicants when a decision has been reached. (Hope to have someone to connect with management BY April 20th)
- Please be prepared to successfully sign-on to the lease: have proof of income, documentation, and/or financial guarantor prepared, along with security deposit and first month's rent.
