This bright, quiet space in a historic landmark rises over the Indian River and the D&H rail trail. Walk, bike, snowshoe and ski through meadows and woods, past wetlands, farms and grazing animals on this beautiful 11-mile-long trail.
The apartment is full of light with high ceilings and nine huge windows. The refinished original fir and maple floors add warmth to the entire space. The building is on a slope, so the western-facing kitchen and porch, as high as the tree canopy, rise up over the river and rail trail and the view is both breathtaking and serene. Sunlight floods the kitchen and the balcony throughout most of the day.
The 2 bedroom apartment has a well-equipped kitchen and pantry, as well as excellent WiFi and an Apple TV box and monitor for streaming. No cable TV. Access to the apt. is by way of stairs with hand railings. Shared access to the laundry on the garden level, the garden and fire pit, a bicycle and snowshoes. The balcony outside the kitchen window is for you alone. Parking is in the driveway.
West Pawlet is a small, rural VT village. Other than the post office, there is no retail activity in the village, but Granville is just 3 miles down 22, or you can drive along beautiful country roads along a river and through farmland and hills to get to Pawlet, Dorset, and Manchester (4, 10 and 16 miles respectively) for delicious, fresh, artisanal and prepared food, farmer’s markets, shopping, arts, and hiking. If you are a skier, Bromley is 19 miles away and Killington is 30. Burlington and Stowe are each about 2 hours north. Middlebury, which has a great food co-op, is 45 miles north.
I bought this beautiful building two years ago and have since been renovating it. Best experience ever! I live on the first floor and am both friendly and very respectful of boundaries. I feel so lucky to live right on the river and next to the rail trail.
