-Our home is a beautiful 1BR, 1.5 Bathroom cedar-shingled cabin, built in 1817, with good bones, stunning original details, and thoughtfully maintained - tidy, clean, and furnished.
-Our favorite part of our home is that it such a soft place to land and take a deep breath. The moment I arrive and smell the woodsmoke on our street, behold the giant sky above us, and wander back towards the river, I settle into my body. It never gets old. The home itself has such a warm and steady energy - home to many shared meals, game nights, celebrations, and quiet evenings. It would be our pleasure to share this space with someone who loves it as much as we do.
-The cabin sits on 7.5 acres of woods with well-maintained mowed walking paths out to the Wallkill River. It’s also across the street from an entrance to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, which connects our area to the towns of New Paltz and Rosendale.
-One of our favorite things to do is witness the many animals who call the woods their home–a blue heron, deer, a family of bald eagles, pileated woodpeckers, fox, coyotes, gophers, and more. There is a back deck with a dining area, and two adirondack chairs with a fire pit and plenty of firewood to sit under the stars. In October and November the region is busy with apple picking and other fall festival events.

-The house boasts fourteen inch-wide plank wooden floors, original post-and-beam construction, with thoughtful upgrades that strike the perfect balance for us of getting out into the woods and feeling comfortable while we’re there.
-The home is lovingly fully furnished with a kitchen hearth that is the center of the home that has a gas stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and basic cookware, a beautiful dining area that comfortably hosts 8 guests, a full bath with a clawfoot tub and a washer/drier, a large family room that looks out onto a nearby pond with a comfortable l-shaped couch, a couch with tempurpedic pull-out mattress, and two reading nooks. Upstairs is a small study nook, a half bath, and a bedroom with a tempurpedic queen-sized bed, nightstands, and dresser drawers. The cabin comfortably hosts a couple or family, and between this bedroom and the pullout couch downstairs, the house comfortably sleeps four people (and can also sleep three more on the l-shaped couch and a twin mattress murphy if you’re looking for sleepover-style). Come work from home or have a creative residency with highspeed internet and easeful amenities, or unplug entirely and head into the woods.
-The house runs on well water and septic, has Central Hudson electric, strong Spectrum Wifi, weekly County Waste Removal, and has ceiling fans + good airflow on both floors. The cost of these utilities are included in the rent.
-The house has a backup generator that is tested monthly that automatically powers the home in the event of a storm outage.
-The house is accessed by a gravel footpath to three 10” stairs or a flagstone footpath to six 10” stairs. The house, while charmingly built over two hundred years ago, is regrettably not accessible to a guest who uses a wheelchair.
-No pets or smoking are allowed in our home. There is a fireplace in the kitchen that is not in operation, and a fire pit in the backyard that guests are welcome to use.

-We are situated halfway between New Paltz and Rosendale (each about 4 miles / 8 min drive away - full grocery, gas, pharmacy, and anything you need in New Paltz), and, just off the Rail Trail. We are 12 miles / 20 min drive away from Kingston (wonderful spots to eat and explore). We love the balance of living at the edge of the woods and also being a quick bike (we can loan 2) or car ride from town. Our neighbors are friendly and supportive - it is important to us that a tenant in our home would be a good neighbor and that their idea of a good time is mostly about being in nature – it is not the vibe of our road to play loud music or have outdoor gatherings after 8pm. We live in a very quiet, mostly agricultural stretch of land that greets some small town rush-hour traffic but otherwise should be a hunker-down, low-key affair. You’re the right fit if you plan to spend your days resting, reading, cooking, hiking, apple picking, fishing, biking, and turning in early.

About This Lister

We are homeowners who are looking to sublet the home to a tenant while we are out of town. I am a carpenter, social worker, teacher, and production manager who loves the work and freedoms of living in the woods. My partner is a dancer and acute-care nurse–we bought this house to find some respite after the stress of COVID nursing, and it has held us so gently. We are clean + tidy people, looking for someone who would live in right-relation to our home + land, and is a quiet, respectful neighbor. We would connect to show you the space, if needed (Reilly - she/they) and function as the contact people.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

We are homeowners, and would be renting the house to a tenant.

Rental requirements

-We are seeking a tenant for several weeks in November (Nov 10-24) at $1,200/week (but can flex in a number of ways, so feel free to reach out with your needs--we are open to a weekend / single week renter in November). Ideally the tenant would be a couple or small group (see sleeping arrangements above).
-We are asking for rent to be paid in full before tenancy begins.
-We also ask for a $300 deposit to secure the rental that is held as a security deposit and refunded to the tenant if there are no damages assessed at the end of your stay.
-Utilities are included in the cost of rent. There is also a cleaning fee of $100 charged at the end of your stay.
