Seeking a considerate and easygoing roommate to share an amazing 3BR apartment in an historic Bed-Stuy brownstone.
About the room & apartment:
The apartment is located a quiet, tree-lined street just three blocks from Nostrand Ave A, C, and a 15 minute walk from Bedford-Nostrand Ave G. The apartment is on the top floor of a recently renovated brownstone building with high ceilings and hardwood floors. Access to the roof is available. The neighborhood offers a variety of grocery stores and restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. It's within walking distance of Herbert Von King and Brower Parks.
The bedroom is south-facing with a large backyard-facing window and plenty of sun; it fits a queen-size bed with room for additional furniture. It has a sizable closet and a cabinet above.
The room can be paired with an adjacent private office with an operable skylight above the desk, and includes an additional closet for personal use. Ideal for students/professors, artists wanting studio space, or someone who needs some extra storage or a second zen space. Room will come unfurnished. If you are not interested in the side room, rent for just your room is $1525, but preference will be given to those who are looking for both.
The apartment includes a rec room/library with a TV that we use for "decompression time" as it's fondly called. The room doubles as a a guest bedroom with a pull-out bed shared between all three residents for visiting friends and family.
There are 2 full bathrooms available. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers in the basement (shared between 5 apts)
The culture:
We foster a communicative, positive, and mutually supportive living environment where we share household expenses (WiFi, gas, electric) and chores. I'm looking for folks who also value upholding a clean and friendly space and who want their home to be a peaceful respite from this fun but noisy city we love!
About you:
In your early to mid/late thirties
Preferably identify as a woman and/or queer
Work in-person most days of the week with a similar 9-5 schedule
Clean, communicative, mature person who hopefully has a fun sense of humor!
About me:
Woman in her early thirties (she/her) who works in food sustainability research. I work hybrid 9-5 job (office 2-3 days/week, the rest WFH). I've lived here for several years and feel very lucky to have this place. You will be moving in at the same time as one other new roommate - the current other two roommates are moving out due to a new job opportunity and the other due to a rent stabilized lottery win (imagine!), but over the years we've built a hospitable environment where we are occasionally hosting friends or family while also respecting each other's space and privacy.
Tenant of 2 years
April rent + security deposit (1 month's rent) -- some potential flexibility to move in slightly before or after April 1 pending my current roommate's moving schedule
This would be a sublet agreement until Oct 1 (lease renewal date), with the potential to join the lease at that time if it feels like a mutual good fit long-term. Unfortunately I am not interested in couples at this time!
Housekeeping on viewings:
I will be traveling for work March 2-10th, so will not be showing the apartment before then, but will be actively showing from the 11th onward. In your email, please include the following:
- Your age & general identity (don't need a ton here, but as mentioned we prioritize a femme/queer inclusive household)
- Employment description and schedule
- A link to instagram/LinkedIn so I know you're real
- A description of what you're looking for in a roommate/housing situation
- If you have a pet
If it seems like a good fit, I'll send you a link to schedule a viewing - not trying to be formal and weird, but schedules are tight and this has historically worked best for me.
If all this sounds good to you, I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Pets need to be friendly/OK with plants in the common spaces. If you have a cat, will need to be responsible for cleaning up after cat and litter box in discrete location
