Capture the editorial beauty of an Old World villa or chateau in our daylight studio which was painstakingly renovated using ancient techniques and all-natural materials imported from Italy and France.

Our 800sqft self-service boutique space is drenched with sunlight. It offers 64 linear feet of shooting wall, 11ft ceilings, and large South-facing windows. The space is also 100% blackout capable with retractable blackout curtains.

We are located in a historic textile mill in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is a 5min walk from the Morgan L train with free street parking.

***For optimal light, we are located on the 3rd floor. A freight elevator for large and heavy items is operated by our building supervisor from 8am-5pm daily. If you require an elevator outside of these hours, arrangements can be made 24hrs in advance for a fee.***

We provide a variety of seamless paper options for you to use free of charge if pulled only to the floor and undamaged. A seamless backdrop pull to the floor for full coverage is $15.00/item

ACCESS
We offer self-service instant booking. After making your reservation, you will receive a unique access code to let yourself in and video instructions.

Our video intercom system allows you to see, talk to, and buzz in any guests from the street.

The building is not wheelchair accessible.

General Rules
Booking INCLUDES setup and clean-up times. If you need to load in using the freight elevator, arrive 15 minutes early. Please allow time to clean and reset the space before you leave. You must be out of the space by the end of your booking time or you will be charged another hour plus an overtime fee.

No tape, command strips, nails or screws on walls.
No smoking in building.
No photographing in hallway, stairways, elevator, or fire escape.
No shattered glass, paint, melted wax, or smashed food.
No bulk trash items larger than garbage can.

Failure to comply with these general rules will result in a $250 fee.

For insurance purposes, our studio is expanding with 2 security cameras. Because we value your privacy and creative freedom, you will never be monitored in real time. Footage will only be reviewed for dispute resolution.

Grapefruit Studio was co-founded, designed and renovated by Melanie Drew Chambers and David Van Witt. With over a decade of experience in commercial set design and prop styling and a passion for antiquity, we hope you’ll be as inspired to create here as we were to make it. We live very close by and are happy to help make you’re experience as fluid and fruitful as possible.

Rental requirements

Payment is due in full to book the space. Please reach out for availability and discounted rates for 8hr+ sessions. In addition to the hourly rate we ask for a $150 security deposit that will be returned directly upon inspecting the space after your photo/video shoot.

Guests may cancel their Booking until 7 days before the event start time and will receive a full refund (including all Fees) of their Booking Price. Guests may cancel their Booking between 7 days and 24 hours before the event start time and receive a 50% refund l of their Booking Price (security deposit included). Booking cancellations submitted less than 24 hours before the Event start time are not refundable
