Hudson Valley Writers Residency: Live/Write/Work/Create opportunity at a Victorian House in the downtown historic district of The Village of Coxsackie, NY, featured earlier this year in the New York Times and Times Union as the recently discovered next "it spot," quaint town in the Upper Hudson Valley.
Perched hillside atop the main street in an idyllic village setting, this beautiful Victorian house is a creative oasis. Next door, visit the Heermance Memorial Library, and from bedroom windows, view the village and Hudson River.
Spend a couple weeks or months in deep focus on your project; take meals with a multidisciplinary cohort of up to three other artist/writer/housemates; enjoy access to the storied and revitalized town center, with its cafes, bakery, wine, vintage clothing and antique store/speakeasy and health food general store; and benefit from country living along Coxsackie's unrivaled, pristine section of Hudson riverfront.
Regional residents from Albany, Athens Cairo and Catskill venture to Coxsackie to dine at our Yellow Deli, Che Figata and brick oven pizza Patrick Henry's restaurants, as well as to browse through the West Coxsackie Antique Center.
Connect with high speed WiFi internet, cozy up with fresh linens and revel in the house's architectural charm. Take a break, get coffee or just go for a walk along historic Reed Street and find out first-hand why Coxsackie enjoys a unique reputation among Hudson Valley hamlets for its warm, friendly culture of welcoming residents and business owners.
We would love to host you and your project!

Hi, my name is Bjorn Thorstad. I've been a professional actor and theatre producer since I was 9 years old.
I purchased this house in December of 2022 to create a space for a small community of artists, writers and digital nomads, who could live and work in the privacy of their own rooms and come together over meals if desired.
I also serve on the Board of Directors of Millay Arts, a non-profit and one of the longest running artist residency programs in the world, which has served over 3,000 artists in its 50 year history. Millay's campus is across the river in Columbia County, on the historic estate of Edna St. Vincent Millay.
Out of the thousands of applicants each year to Millay's core residency program, Millay can only admit a handful of the talented, blind-jury-selected artists who apply, the limitations of which inspired creating more space to host more creative work by ever more artists in need of our two most valuable, non-renewable resources: time & space.
