Welcome!
For rent: a large bedroom (11 x 14.5 feet) with beautiful hardwood floors and tall, west-facing windows that let in lots of natural light from morning to dusk. Perfect for plant-lovers.
Unfurnished, apart from a large mirror and dresser. The room is at the back of a 2-bedroom apartment which is the entire top floor of a 2-story townhouse.
There's a small and rarely used office with a large drafting table at the front of the apartment. Perfect for artists or anyone who does some remote work.
Common spaces are neat, clean, and cozy, with lots of plants. New dining room furniture and a couch for the living room. The kitchen is fully stocked, including kitchenaid mixer and instapot. The counters, cabinets, and appliances were new when I moved in 5 years ago and have been kept clean.
I'm grateful daily for such a nice, comfortable, light-filled, relaxing space and want to share it with someone who will appreciate it as much as I do.
The block is nice and quiet and mostly long-time homeowners. It's a short walk (8 mins) through Little Haiti to the Church Ave 2/5. The neighborhood is lively with lots of great Caribbean food options and nice cafes on Nostrand Ave. Rogers Garden, a nice rum bar, isn't far.
Foodtown grocery is 1.5 long blocks away and Ms. Bubbles laundromat is 2 short blocks away. It's about 20 mins to Brooklyn College or Grand Army Plaza by train.
Electricity and internet are shared and are about $95-110, per month, per roommate. Gas is included in rent with the landlord.
We have a decent landlord who is fairly hands off. She lives in the neighborhood and if ever anything breaks I just text her and she sends someone that day or the next.
I'm Ivan (he/him), 35, a Gardener at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I'm early riser and out of the house 6am–4pm, Monday–Friday. Most afternoons and evenings I'm resting and recovering, but I'm also politically active in my union and community so a few evenings a week I'll be out at meetings, or on zoom calls in my room, and very rarely I'll have book club people over.
I'll have a friend over for coffee on occasion but no large groups or parties anymore. I don't mind if my roommate has people over or a partner stay the night, as long as there are some nights of the week things can be quiet and restful too.
On the weekends I usually get out to the farmers market, meet a friend, go on a hike, or do some organizing work. Otherwise, I'm at home cleaning and resting.
I try to clean every week. I expect roommates to help keep up the common spaces, vacuum the carpets, sweep and mop the hard floors, and regularly clean kitchen and bathroom. But it's is also a place to live, so I don't get upset if there's a dish in the sink, I just ask that it gets cleaned and put away eventually.
I usually cook for the week Sunday afternoon and make something easy on a weeknight mid-week. Otherwise I'm just making easy, simple meals. I've lived with people who cook all the time and people who never cook, but the kitchen is small, so as long as they put things away, I don't mind either way.
Esteban (10) is my big, sweet, black cat. He grew up with 5 roommates and dogs, so he's friendly and sociable but has clear boundaries. He's currently adjusting to new medication and diet, so I'm afraid no new pets at this time.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the apartment, neighborhood, me, or Esteban.
Thank you!
