Hello, I am looking to sublet my large, fully-furnished bedroom (perched directly across from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden) to someone who splits their time between NYC and eslewhere and is looking for a part-time accommodation (~20 days/month).

I am based in the Hudson Valley but spend one week or a few days a month in Brooklyn. The rest of the month, my bright, spacious bedroom stands vacant which is a shame, financially and ideologically.

I don't have a specific visit schedule and tend to be very flexible with my planning.

Prior arrangements that have worked beautifully were:
1. A roommate who worked in the city Tue -Thurs and spent weekends in New Haven.
2. A roommate who stayed with her partner on days when I needed the room.
3. A roommate who spent 2 weeks/month in the city and the other 2 weeks in Baltimore, on a predictable rotation.

I am curious to see how your hybrid life/work schedule might fit with mine.

The apartment itself is a huge, sunny prewar 3 bedroom, 1 bath with high ceilings and windows everywhere - most of them overlooking the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Current occupants: a lovely, cis/hetero Dutch couple in their early 30s and a Danish guy in his late 20s. They are incredible!

Ours is a vegetarian home.

An environment of respect, collaboration and HARMONY IS FUNDAMENTAL. The atmosphere we create and nurture one of a cohesive family rather than a collection of anonymous roommates. Please only apply if you are looking to live in harmony with people you wish to befriend. Transparent and clear communication skills are an absolute must.

Visitors are always surprised by the scale of the apartment, often describing it as “shockingly large” in real life. Truly.
The apartment is fully-furnished and the kitchen is stocked to the gills with everything imaginable so you need to bring very little to feel comfortable and at home.

With ample private as well as common space, this apartment is an ideal space to find serenity and stillness. And, with Prospect Park and the Botanic Garden literally steps from home, you can be in nature within minutes of shutting your laptop.

We are friendly and chatty but also appreciate our solo time to focus on our work during the day (one of us works from home part-time) or decompressing at night. This not a home for loud music, smoking, or ruckus. We get along best with folks who are sociable and friendly but who can also fill their own time.

Crown Heights is a vibrant neighborhood bustling with restaurants on Franklin and Washington Avenues, the BBG and Prospect Park are literally across the street, there is a CitiBike parking lot on our corner. Subway trains surround us. Weekend farmers market at Grand Army Plaza is 10 min away.

In all, this is just a great place to live. We are warm, mature people looking for a roommate who will appreciate the beauty and serenity of the space and add to it with their tranquil and respectful energy.

About This Lister

I am a therapist in my 40s currently based in the Hudson Valley. I moved into this gorgeous Crown Heights apartment 9 years ago and have created lasting bonds with the motley crew of roommates who have passed through it. Although I live Upstate now, I still cherish and scrupulously maintain the apartment which is a sun-drenched, plant-filled, serene oasis.
