The available room is on the second floor of our home (1 flight of stairs) -- there is an eat-in kitchen, bathroom, living room that you'll have full access and use of. The room itself is cozy, with a full-sized memory foam bed, area rug, chest of drawers, desk w/ office chair, and good-sized closet with hanging space for clothes. There's a nice window in the bedroom that lets in lots of natural light a large outdoor deck off the kitchen with a table and chairs for the nice weather.
In addition to this room, there is one other bedroom on the floor, which we utilize as an additional guest room for when our friends & family come to visit -- there is another housemate moving into that room on 1/15 for several months (a friend from France here on an O1 Visa for musical theatre!). From 1/15 onwards, you will share the upstairs kitchen, living room, and bathroom with her! My husband and I have our own bathroom and kitchen on the first floor. Our cat, Bowie, lives on the first floor with us and he doesn't venture upstairs.
Our home and block is on the quieter side -- we have friends over from time to time, but we're conscious of noise levels and neighbors and expect a housemate to be the same. To avoid sharing the space with any critters, we work together to keep the house clean. We expect a housemate to clean up after themselves, clean dishes as soon as your done using them (we have a dishwasher btw!) and rotate on larger cleaning tasks (like vacuuming the common areas, etc. Utilities (electric, heat, wifi) average out to $100 a month.
We are located on 30th st. between 3rd and 4th ave. right between the 25th st. station stop (R train) and 36th st. station stop (D, N, and R trains) in Sunset Park. Conveniently, the 36th st. station is an express stop, and if you take the express trains from there it's only 2 stops to Manhattan (and 1 stop to downtown Brooklyn / Atlantic Terminal, which is on the border of Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, and Park Slope). With Industry City, Sunset Park, & Greenwood Cemetery just a few blocks away, there’s lots to explore locally too.
My name is Laura (she/her) and I live on the first floor of the house with my partner Phil (he/him) and our cat Bowie (named after David Bowie, of course).
I work from home teaching adults web development and Phil works from home in video distribution. We are makers -- we've made a good amount of our own furniture, brew beer at home, turned the figs from the tree in the backyard into tasty treats, and more. We also love collaborative board games, puzzles, and experimenting and exploring.
Before we lived in this house, we lived in a share-house for 9 years with up to 8 other people at a time! We know how to share space :) While our work keeps us fairly busy these days and most of our time is spent on the first floor, we do enjoy grabbing a drink or meal with our upstairs housemate(s) when possible.
We're looking for a respectful housemate, who will love our house as much as we do and keep things tidy. Bonus points if you're interested in joining our board game nights once in a while :)
landlord, housemate
Please tell us about yourself! We'll be sharing a house so we'd love to know who you are, if you're living in NYC currently or moving here temporarily/permanently, how you spend your time, etc.
We're looking for a roommate who is financially reliable and interested in staying 1-2 months, with the potential to extend.
We ask that you be prepared to share a copy of your government-issued ID (international is okay), 2 recent paystubs and 2 recent bank statements (or comparable proof of income/ability to pay rent).
1 month's rent + 1 month security deposit to move in.
