About the Position
The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is seeking customer service-oriented applicants to join our team. We are looking for a part-time team member with availability both weekdays and weekends who are interested in engaging with visitors to our space and sharing the Stonewall legacy and LGBTQ+ history. The scheduled shifts for this position are 3-4 days per week 9:30am to 4:30pm Tuesday thru Sunday based on staffing needs.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to welcome visitors into the space and provide information on the history of Stonewall and the uprising leading to the modern LGBTQ+ equal rights movement. Other duties include but are not limited to retail sales, light facilities maintenance, events set up, leading group tours and other duties on an as needed basis. Schedule flexibility to accommodate school and other activities provided staffing needs are met.
Qualifications
● 1-3 years of customer service, operations, or administrative experience, preferably in a museum, cultural institution, or visitor center.
● Be able to work 9:30 am - 4:30 pm on days scheduled.
● Applicants must have weekend availability.
● Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs.
● Applicants with a strong connection or interest in LGBTQ+ history and speak multiple languages are encouraged to apply.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with visitors and provide excellent customer service.
• Organizational and time-management abilities to handle daily operations and administrative tasks.
• Problem-solving skills to address visitor concerns and operational challenges efficiently.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong Social Media experience is a plus but not required.
• Passion for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Location
● On-site at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, New York City.
● No remote work option is available for this position.
