note: farm house is 2,500, bedroom is 12 x 20 ft
Looking for housemate to join our home with earth friendly kitchen, wood stove, bee hives, 100' x 100' foot garden, surrounded by woods, wetlands & wildlife area, marked trails, starry nights....
We are looking for 1-3 month agreement (extendable) as we look for our next longterm housemate.
Two of us live in the 4-bedroom house (except when one or both of us is in NYC for a few days). We are Puerto Rican and white, queer and queer friendly, 40 and 60, equally quiet and fun, herbalist and writer, so many things!
People who value quiet, alone-time as well as shared space and economy feel at home right away. We love people with projects (writers, artists, musicians, makers, gardeners, land lovers, tree huggers) or folx looking for rest (healers, herbalists, activists) and they love us.
The property is 1.5 hr drive from the GWB and 10-mins from the Otisville stop of MetroNorth Bergen Line. You will want a car to enjoy the area, but it is possible to stay here without one! You can take Metro North to Otisville or Shortline to Wurtsboro and taxi to the house (if we can't pick you up).
The house is on 10-acres adjacent to the 3000 acre Bashakill Wetlands and Wildlife Management Area (fox, bears, beavers, skunk, porcupine, deer, coyote, bald eagles, water foul, who am i forgetting?) on the southern-most Shawangunk Ridge and lower edge of Catskills. See http://www.thebashakill.org/aboutbk.htm.
You can walk, snowshoe or x-country ski off the property onto an abandoned railroad track that connects to the NY/NJ Trail Council/Long Path (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Path). It's 25 mindful driving minutes to Thich Naht Hanh's Blue Cliff Monastery (https://www.bluecliffmonastery.org), 20 mins to the Middletown Galleria or Ellenville, 7ish mins to small town Wurtsboro and 10-20 to many farmer markets.
The house has old (1849) farm house quirks, but is equipped with all conveniences (laundry, dishwasher, great hot water, etc.) The shared kitchen has all you need and the bedroom is fully furnished. There are 4 bedrooms, 2-full baths, full kitchen, adjacent lounge area with wood burning stove, front porch, deck, laundry room/kitchenette, utility basement and 5th bedroom/hang space on ground floor that can be closed off for Covid recovery, guests, etc.
The bedroom is 12 x 20 with SW facing windows, ceiling fan, desk, queen bed, side table, bureau and armoire.
If this sounds right for you, please write a bit about you and questions for us. We love to hear why you are seeking a shared house in the woods!
I will respond to your email before setting up a call or visit.
Peace, Kelly
note: the photos do not give justice to the place!
We are renting the room short term as we look for our next gardening obsessed longer term housemate.
Kelly is 60, they/she, queer, white (Irish dual citizen), freelance facilitator, writer and has owned this home for 25 yrs.
Angelica is 40, she/her, Puerto Rican, botanist, hairstylist, medicinal herbalist and gardner who has been building gardens here for 5 yrs.
We get along great with artists, abolitionists and introverts who like people.

$750/month includes heat (forced air, wood stove), utilities, high-speed Wifi, basic household supplies (i.e., cleaning supplies, paper products, etc), use of laundry and dishwasher. ATT, Tmobile and Sprint mobile work great.
$750 first month + $300 returnable security/cleaning fee = $1050 to move in. 3 month agreement to start. Possible to do 2. $800 for one month possible.
Willingness to share basic household tasks (cleaning, stacking wood, etc.) Participation in garden is separate but most welcome especially during spring, summer and fall.
