Room plus bath in sunny, spacious Bed Stuy apartment

Rooms for Rent

$1,750/month

Location

Bed Stuy, Brooklyn

Available

December 1, 2024 - November 1, 2025

Size

80 sq. ft.

Room for rent in a spacious, sunny Bed Stuy apartment a 7 min walk from the Bedford-Nostrand G. Very central neighborhood. Sublease required (for the full term of the lease, through November 1st 2025). No straight guys, pls (sorry - not budging on that one!). Must love cats.

Location / amenities: Apartment doesn’t have fancy amenities, just major space, great windows, and a central location in a great neighborhood. Just renovated (I moved in Nov 1). Also very nice neighbors in the building : ). There’s a laundromat down the block.

Space: Apt is around 1000sq feet - a full floor - and the available room is 7 1/2 by 10 ft with a little nook that stretches a bit further. It would probably accommodate a queen, but I’d suggest a full-sized bed for more space. Decent sized closet.

You have just one roommate (me, the main lease holder). Apartment is already furnished by me, but bedroom will need furnishing. I also left the wall outside the room empty in case you want to add additional furniture. Happy to talk about shared space and what that might look like.

Rooms are on way opposite sides of the apartment. There are two baths - you’d have generally-exclusive access to the main bathroom in the hallway, which *has a bathtub*! (I have my own bathroom in the main bedroom.) We can def talk about how that works (as in whether or not guests can use your bathroom, etc.) I am a reasonable person, not a tyrant!

Cats: I have two playful, extremely friendly cats, Punky and Banjo, so you must genuinely love cats. I keep all their cat stuff (food, litter) on my side of the apartment, but the older cat, Banjo, likes to follow people around and even fetches (with mixed results). I think he was a dog in another life. Punky is cuddly as heck.

Heads up: There’s a (very kind!) music teacher above your room, so you’ll hear music on some afternoons, so this is either a good fit for someone who is music / sound tolerant or someone who works outside the home. I also listen to records sometimes, but am respectful about when and can adjust or keep it to my space. I work from home in the office next to my bedroom (again, on the other side of the apartment : ).

I am: 38yo woman. Writer / designer / comedian and occasional musician who works mainly from home except for evening shows. (There’s a 3rd room here that’s my office.) I’m friendly, silly, creative, and an extroverted introvert (I love people but also need solo time and space to create and be - hence this apartment!).

I try to keep things fairly organized because I’m adhd af and it helps. Vibe-wise, I like an inspired / arty / bookish oasis, with plenty of space and light (I moved here from CA in 2018, and grew up partly in CO - suffice to say I love the sun and outdoors!)

You are: kind, reasonably tidy, easy to communicate with, ideally over 30 or close to it. Because this is an official sublease, you’ll need to show the landlord you make 40X the rent and share two employment pay stubs. We’ll also need a reference from your most recent landlord and I’ll also ask for a personal reference or two. The landlord will also ask for a credit report that shows your score is above 700 and a bank statement that shows you have savings. One month security deposit. Landlord won’t accept additional pets (unless you have, like, a goldfish.)

I get along best with people who are easygoing and flexible but also genuinely caring and thoughtful about the people and environment around them. It would be great to have someone here who shares leftist, equity-oriented politics, all things in the world considered!

If this sounds like you, please shoot me a message and let me know about yourself and what you’re looking for, and for how long. I wrote a bible above because I want to find the right fit : ). Also feel free to ask me any questions! I’ll be showing the spot Monday-Friday, November 20th-22nd.

I’ve included a pic of the empty space before I moved in so you can get a sense of the square footage, and also what it’s like currently (some art and plants are going up next week! I’ve also cleared even more space in the living room). Room shots are of your potential room.

About This Lister

38yo woman. Writer / designer / comedian and occasional musician who works mainly from home except for evening shows. (There’s a 3rd room here that’s my office.) I’m friendly, silly, creative, and an extroverted introvert — I love people but also need solo time and space to create and be, hence this apartment!

I try to be organized about space and don’t love clutter, but I’m not type A. I love creating an arty oasis vibe - art, plants, books, but with a sense of light and humor and spaciousness. I lucked out with this apartment!
