About this Service

I'm available to consult with you on your writing project - everything from generative brainstorming to notes on your finished draft. Though my specialty is screenwriting, I've taught and published writing in a variety of mediums, and am looking forward to meeting you wherever you are in your process.

My approach is based on close reading and specific questions, tailored to your individual project and sensibility. I'm well-versed in a multitude of genres and styles, and have worked in the past with both professionals in their fields and writers just beginning to hone their voices.

About this Lister

I grew up in Reno, NV and moved to Olympia, Washington in the late 90s to study literature at The Evergreen State College; my experience there fostered an ongoing commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to education and storytelling, and a dedicated interest in a diversity of voices and styles.

In 2001, I moved to New York to attend Columbia's MFA program in Film, where I focused primarily on screenwriting. Since graduating, I have written and consulted on a number of film projects, including shorts and documentary features. While working on various film ventures, I've also taught writing at a number of institutions and I worked for 15 years at a non-profit that assists adults who have disabilities.

Background and Expertise

I wrote and co-directed the feature 'Slow Machine,' which had its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival in 2020 and went on to become a New York Times 'Critic's Pick' when it was released theatrically in 2021. I also co-wrote the feature 'Burn Country' (released by Samuel Goldwyn in 2017) and have been a paid consultant on documentaries by Ian Olds and Lotfy Nathan.

In 2011, I was a fellow at the Sundance Screenwriting Lab, where my advisors included Ira Sachs, Kasi Lemmons and John Lee Hancock. I was a recipient of a Hearst Screenwriters Grant in 2014 and was a jurist on the media arts grant panel for BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) in 2019.

I've published essays on film in BOMB Magazine, Metrograph Journal, 4columns.org, and The Brooklyn Rail. I've taught screenwriting, directing and film history at The Interlochen Institute For The Arts, Boricua College, and The Ramapo College of New Jersey.
