We are looking to fill in a large room in our triplex brownstone in Bed Stuy for the upcoming year. The unit is on the first three floors of the brownstone and has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a private garden/backyard and basement.
The Room: Very spacious room (11’3” x 15’2”). It has 2 windows overlooking the backyard. It has a decorative fireplace and a walk-in closet. The room is unfurnished. There’s plenty of space for a full/queen, or even a king bed.
The Apartment: The ground floor features a very large living room and dining area, a large kitchen that leads to the backyard and a bathroom. The upstairs has all 3 bedrooms and another bathroom. The unfinished basement has an in-unit washer/dryer and ample space for storage.
The Garden: The Garden is Kirk’s labor of love, he has been growing a native plant habitat garden. We would love someone ready to tend and water it too when needed! Features a hammock, raised herb beds, outdoor furniture, string lights, and a fire pit.
The Neighborhood: We're located at Malcolm X & Greene Ave (East Bed Stuy), near the Kosciuszko J stop. Close to coffee shops like Lalin’s, Botanica, and Passionfruit. Close to Saraghina Bakery, LunAtico, and Frog Wine Bar. Great locale with easy access to Bed Stuy and Bushwick scenes.
Rental requirements: Rentals would require proof of income for the last six months. Utilities (including Fios internet) run around $100/mo each. Our lease renews on January 1st and we are looking for someone to co-sign for at least the duration of this year (to Dec 31st). Shorter-term agreements may be considered but are not our priority. We are looking for someone to move on April 1st.
The Roommates:
Kirk: 32, male, queer, landscape architect originally from Iowa. A big interest in ecology and food and how they relate to one another. His main hobby is building out the backyard as a habitat for wildlife, with a focus on native plants that support our native pollinators. Also very into edible plants and foraging around NYC. Enjoys biking around the city and writes a newsletter about the relationship between nature and technology.
Peyton, 28, female, queer, works in music and is very into records/ going to shows. Owner to Pluto the cat. He is a bit hyper at times but adorable and affectionate.
We are respectful of the common spaces we share. We have busy schedules and therefore seek to maintain a good balance between quiet and mindful hosting. Although we each have busy lives, we welcome impromptu dinners, bonfires, backyard hangs, and movie nights (the Roku has most subscriptions). We like to keep the place clean and follow a weekly cleaning schedule. We are mindful of comings and goings to make sure Pluto doesn’t run outside.
You: You are easy-going, relaxed, jovial, and communicative. Must like pets to get along with Pluto (unfortunately, we cannot accept anyone with another pet). Anyone with a green heart or interest in cities is encouraged to apply. Queer and BIPOC folks will be given priority. That said, we're open to anyone who seems like a good fit. Note that our living room/dining area is well-filled at the moment so we would not be able to accommodate much new living room furniture.
If you're interested, please reach out and tell us a bit about yourself (hobbies, interests, work, schedule). We look forward to meeting you!
Peyton, I am one of the current tenants.
