My roommate is moving out in the middle of Jan. It is a 2BR 1.5 bath apartment in Ridgewood with the rooms on opposite sides of the apartment for privacy. I have loved living here for the last 1.5 years and am looking for a new friend to share the space.
The apartment is located on the 3rd floor (two flights up), no elevator. It is located on Stanhope St between Seneca Ave and Cypress Ave. It is in Ridgewood, and the border with Bushwick is at the corner of the block.
• Room Features:
Spacious 110 square feet room with two NW-facing double-pane windows, enough space for a queen bed, 6-foot desk, dresser, and nightstand. Has a closet in the room and can store things in the basement at no charge.
It will mostly come unfurnished except for a full mattress if you would like it. The bedroom is facing the back of the building, so no street noise.
The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the apartment with 10’ ceilings throughout. Due to the half bath, I appreciate never needing to wait for the bathroom.
• Apartment Features:
There is a standard fridge, 30” gas stove, dishwasher, and microwave in the kitchen. The living room currently has a couch, full-size mirror, dining table and chairs, coffee table, as well as a 65” TV and bookshelf speakers.
I am interested in getting new furniture as my friend moves out, so I am open to your design suggestions.
There is central AC that is controlled by an ecobee smart thermostat. The building has steam heating, which really helps save on utilities during the winter.
• Building Info:
There is a keypad buzzer for the front door. The neighbors are quiet and considerate; I haven’t had any issues with anyone in my building. There are only two apartments on each floor and three stories in total. There is roof access too.
Packages are usually dropped off in the lobby, and other tenants and I will bring them behind the locked doors. In my whole time living here, I haven’t heard of any lost or stolen packages.
There is a washer and dryer in the basement. It usually takes me one wash and two dry cycles for one load of laundry ($2.75 × 3 = $8.25).
If desired, there is a laundromat with drop-off service two blocks away.
• Transportation:
The closest transportation is the L train at Dekalb Ave, about 5 minutes walking, and the M train at Seneca Ave, about 11 minutes away. You can be at Union Sq in less than 25 minutes.
If you need to get to Downtown Brooklyn, Bed Stuy, or deeper into Ridgewood, the B38 runs very frequently. I find the neighborhood to be very walkable.
• Utilities:
I have Verizon Fios with my own enterprise router, broadcasting Wi-Fi at a central location so that Wi-Fi is strong in every part of the apartment. Internet has not gone down more than once in 1.5 years. If you work any days at home, you will appreciate how stable fiber is.
The utilities are as follows: $20 each for the internet, $10 each for gas usually, $40 each for electricity during the winter, and about $100 each during the summer due to AC.
I regularly go to BJ's/Costco to get paper towels and toilet paper in bulk, and I keep supplies like trash bags fully stocked.
• Supermarkets:
There is one supermarket 2 minutes away, another one 6 minutes away, and a third one 10 minutes away. Food Bazaar is the best market in the area, about 13 minutes away.
My name is Kent (He/Him), I am a queer man who is 30. I have lived in NYC most of my life, growing up in the Lower East Side where my parents still live. I work from home full time for a healthcare company.
I am a movie buff and love to watch all types of films from documentary, to drama, action, new and old. I enjoy photography when I am traveling. I love going to concerts, especially for electronic guitar driven music.
I don’t bring the party home and usually keep the common spaces very clean. Most importantly, no food is left out overnight. I would rate my cleanliness in common areas 8/10. I don’t have friends over more than once a month. Hopefully that would be the same for you.
LGBT+ people are preferred of any gender. 20s and 30s preferred.
I want to have a living space where we can both feel comfortable in and we can discuss any issues or suggestions openly. Ideally, I can live with someone who I can be friends with.
Also, I am very sensitive to smoke/vaping so sadly cannot live with smokers. Occasional candles are fine.
