The Chicken House, on Franklin Ave, has a lovely room available, starting May 1.
The room is huge (26 x 9) and recently renovated, with high ceilings, hardwood floors, built-in bookshelves, and a big closet with extra storage space. It has an east-facing window, which overlooks a maple tree in the back yard, and a skylight.
On the same floor is a newly renovated kitchen (with dishwasher), a large lovely living room (425sf), and a newly renovated bathroom (with washing machine). The kitchen and bath are shared by the three people who share the floor.
There are currently two women in their mid-40s living in the apartment. One is an artist and the other is a psychoanalyst and researcher. The vibe of the house is friendly but quiet, with a preference for folks who are relaxed and have some experience with collective living and sharing space with housemates.
The room is on the second floor of a freestanding wood-frame house. The couple who owns the house lives downstairs with their 15yo son; a sweet couple in their 30s lives on the top floor; and there are two good dogs in the house--one on the top floor and one in the garden apartment--so being dog- and kid-friendly is a must.
There's a front porch with a swing, which overlooks a front yard with four pretty, quiet, egg-laying chickens. There's also a side yard with covered bike parking.
We're right on the border of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy. We’ve lived here 20 years, and we love this community. Our neighbors are wonderful, and everyone looks out for each other.
The house is five short blocks from the C and S, and a ten-minute walk to the A and G. Two CitiBike stations are one block away. It's close to three good grocery stores (including the Greene Hill Food Coop), a newly renovated public library, a YMCA with a pool, and tons of great bars and restaurants--Golda, Calaca, Hart's, The Fly, Lucy's, Dynaco, Do or Dive, ArtShack, Playground, Stonefruit, C’mon Everybody, Chilo's, Fan Fan, For All Things Good, Greenberg's Bagels, Welcome Home Bakery, Doris, Clementine, Hartley's, Speedy Romeo, Home Frite, Aita, Samurai Papa.
For what it's worth, Brooklyn Magazine listed the house as one of the best in Brooklyn: http://www.bkmag.com/2014/04/15/the-25-best-houses-in-brooklyn-a-highly-subjective-list/15/
Rent is $1500. Bills, including Fios, are 60.
No smoking, couples, or pets, please. I'm sorry to say that we're quite firm on excluding pets--two dogs is just right, but more would likely be too much of a good thing. And cats would probably be stressed here--and might risk turning the good dogs bad.
We're having an open house Saturday, April 12th, 11:30-1:30. The address is 421 Franklin Ave, between Monroe and Madison. Email to RSVP and tell us a bit about yourself.
We've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years and we love it wholeheartedly. We're very lucky to have a great community within the house, and a great community of neighbors around us.
We own the building and we live in the bottom duplex.
We ask for a month's rent for security deposit.
Some form of references would be nice.
