Palante Technology Cooperative is seeking a new worker to join our cooperative! We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting nonprofit social justice organizations in meeting their technology goals. The new worker will join our web team, providing remote support and maintenance to clients across the country.
This is a full time remote position with flexibility around schedules and exact numbers of hours. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position has been filled.
We are looking for someone who has a well-rounded set of professional and technical skills and is good at learning new skills. We prefer that you have experience with working remotely and independently; you should be comfortable with a high amount of communication via phone, video, email, chat and an online project management system. Ideal candidates will share our commitment to working with progressive and social justice nonprofits and community organizations.
Your primary role will be to serve as a support technician for our web clients. You will provide direct support to clients using Backdrop, Drupal, WordPress and CiviCRM. This work includes contributing to modules, extensions and plugins to enhance functionality; developing custom functionality as required; maintaining the software by applying updates; answering client questions about CMS and CRM functionality; and advising on workflows. You will also have opportunities to explore and learn other portions of Palante's work.
The ideal candidate has the following qualities/skills:
* Proficiency in problem analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging technical issues;
* Good communication skills (written and verbal) with careful attention to detail;
* Able to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as be part of a team;
* Talent for explaining technical problems and solutions patiently to non-technical folks in a way that's accessible;
* Experience with Apache, Linux, PHP and MySQL; or equivalent stack experience and willingness to learn LAMP stack.
* Experience with Backdrop, Drupal, WordPress or similar content management systems.
* Experience with git;
* Familiarity with APIs and developing new functionality with an API;
* Experience with CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Nice to have skills/experience:
* Experience with project management for web or similar projects;
* Experience with migrating content from one CMS installation to another;
* Familiarity or involvement with open source project development and communities;
* Experience and skill with CiviCRM, or equivalent experience with database administration, management, analysis and integration of similar constituent relationship management systems.
* Understanding of or experience with working within cooperatives;
* Experience with organizational or business administration;
* Basic knowledge of web design principles
* Experience with PGP encryption.
Responsibilities:
* Perform regular updates and maintenance for Drupal, Backdrop, and WordPress implementations;
* Directly interact with and assist clients with a breadth of CMS daily use and administrative needs;
* Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with CMS implementations;
* Develop new CMS features via custom or contributed modules and plugins to provide enhanced functionality for clients;
* Be responsive and engaged with the business and administration of the cooperative, increasing as the worker approaches worker-ownership.
Wages and Benefits:
All Palante workers are paid at the same hourly rate of $40.00, plus patronage if they become worker-owners after 9-to-12 months of successful onboarding. We typically consider 30 hours/week to be full time. A full list of benefits can be found as part of the job posting at the listing below.
