Just by 145th street A/B/C/D stop

I’m moving out of my place in Harlem, and am helping my housemate Cosmo find a replacement. The apartment is in a great location - less than a minute from the 145th street express train stop, but just around the corner and on a quiet street. There all kinds of stores and gyms and theatres close by, and it’s a friendly neighbourhood.

I’ve really enjoyed living with Cosmo here. We have also worked out a division of chores, and he likes the place being clean.
The apartment has in-unit washer and dryer, a landlord-installed microwave, fridge, and a new induction stove/oven was just installed this month. The place is on the first floor - you have to climb up the stoop (about a dozen steps).

If you’re interested, please send a note introducing yourself, and share some details of what you would be looking for in sharing a space, what kind of work you do, and any questions you have for us. We are looking to meet a couple of people before deciding how to proceed, and are happy to set up a viewing virtually or in person. If you’re comfortable sharing a social media profile link or worksite profile link, that would be great (just so we know you’re real :) ; but no sweat if this is an issue)

We look forward to connecting!

About This Lister

I’m a 36 year old professor of literature and anthropology, use he/him pronouns, and Cosmo is 30 years old, uses he/him pronouns. Here’s an introduction from him: “A bit about myself- I work as an engineer for a firm here, I work on electron microscopes in the New York City area and often have to stay overnight in hotels for longer distance regional travel. I’m relatively quiet as a housemate but I really enjoy cooking with and for people because cooking single servings is rather depressing and awkward in terms of groceries haha. .. My hobbies are making and playing music (guitar, singing, and production), playing video games, running and biking, I used to do a lot of comedy and acting though it has been a while due to pandemic….”

Rental requirements

The overall rent for the apartment is $3025pm, and utilities/wifi currently comes to about $140pm. The deposit, equivalent to your portion of the rent, will be due at the start. You will sign a fresh rental lease alongwith Cosmo for one year, so both of your names will be on the rental agreement with the landlord. The landlord is a very amiable person, and rather hands off, but responds if there’s some urgent matter. He will want some documents of assurance regarding financial standing, but can be flexible.

The division of the rent depends on how much space you use, and Cosmo is open to discussing various arrangements. The room itself is 230cm by 335cm, plus one closet, plus a rather long hallway (625cm by 88cm) that would be entirely yours. I’m currently using that hallway for my bookshelves and various boxes of stuff. I also use some of the common spaces for myself: I have set up my work space (table and chair) in the living room, and this arrangement has worked well for me. Cosmo is very respectful of my strange work hours and I can read in a quiet environment. Since I use more of the space than just my room+hallway, I pay $1350pm. Cosmo is open to discussing varying arrangements and adjusting rent accordingly: less if you don’t need a work set up in the living room, more if you want more exclusive use of a part of the living room space. I have uploaded photos of the living room space, bathroom and the room- the room is somewhat mess at as I’ve put a lot of stuff in boxes already.
