Walkable. Comfortable. Wonderful.
In Highland Park (LA’s best neighborhood), on a quiet, tree-lined street, one block off bustling Figueroa, is an idyllic apartment that I’ve been lucky enough to call home for the past four years. Echo Street, as our little block is called, is walking distance to Kinship Yoga, Homestate, The Lodge Room, Civil Coffee, Kitchen Mouse, and Hippo—these are names you will come to know intimately within a few weeks of living here, if you don’t already. My partner and I are taking an extended trip to the northeast and looking for a subtenant who will love and enjoy this home in a very special neighborhood.
This upstairs apartment features a large bedroom (with spacious closet and king size bed), large entertainment room & office (also with closet space), and a smaller office that offers a meditative view of the nearby hills. The living room and dining area are comfortable and uncramped, as is the kitchen. The one bathroom features a shower and tub, a sink, and (of course) a toilet. All rooms get fantastic light, though the primary bedroom is off the street making it a little darker and a little quieter. The floors are bamboo hardwood except in the bathroom and kitchen which are faux-wood vinyl. The stacked washer-dryer unit is less than a year old and its washing is matched only by its drying.
The house is furnished with a mix of mid-century-modern pieces, blonde rattan, eclectic vintage, and contemporary pieces. There is a large television in the entertainment room, an adjustable standing/sitting desk in the smaller office, and a respectably stocked set of kitchen appliances and utensils. A four-burner stove and oven sit next to the fridge. We do not own a microwave, but there is more than enough counter space should you decide you want one during your stay. We have high-speed internet. There are AC units in the living room and entertainment room. There is a gas heater in the hallway though I have never used it and rely solely on a space-heater when needed.
There is a tranquil and rustic backyard that is shared with the downstairs neighbors. It has several areas for hosting, lounging, sunning, reading, writing, crafts projects, and (of course) gardening! You will also be walking distance to several parks including a small art park, a larger park & recreation center with a children's playground, a much larger park with hiking, a pond, and many scenic views of downtown Los Angeles.
You will be a three-minute drive to the 110 Freeway which can take you to either Pasadena or Downtown in roughly 10 minutes (traffic depending), or if public transit is your preferred method of transit you will be a seven-minute walk to the Metro A Line, or a four-minute walk to the bus. Street parking can always be found though occasionally you may have to look a little longer or further. There is also a large public parking lot within a block in which you can find electric vehicle charging stations and all day parking for a mere $2.50.
We will provide gas, garbage, and internet fees, but electric and water will be paid by subtenant.
We are flexible on move-in and move-out dates but looking for a minimum of three months. We are leaving Los Angeles mid-December and returning no earlier than July.
I enjoy walks, conversations, reading, and surfing. The first three are very much at hand in this neighborhood and the surf is 30 minutes away when I can miss the traffic. I live with my lovely fiancée who works in documentary film. She loves books, films, and her friends. She wishes we had a dog, and someday, I hope we do.
We rent from our landlord who has agreed to allow us to sublet the apartment. We have a good relationship with the property manager, and the downstairs neighbors.
