I'm hosting a 4-week writing workshop series in January to help professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs find their distinctive voices and frame their ideas through op-eds, commentary, personal narratives and essays. As a former deputy editor at Forbes, I know what top editors are looking for in pitches and guest columns, and I also know how to convey an argument/perspective with authority and clarity.
The workshop will take place in the West Village on Saturdays in January.
Dates: Jan 4, 11, 18, 25th
Time: 10:30 am - 1 pm
Cost: $750 Some participants have been able to use company educational reimbursement funds. Payment plans are also available.
Even if your ultimate goal is not to publish op-eds, this workshop will empower you to outline and polish your work, grow your audience and think like an editor. It's also an amazing networking opportunity with likeminded professionals.
Types of writing covered include:
Blogs and Commentary
Articles and Op-Eds
Conference Keynotes and Papers
Professional Projects
Personal Narratives
Thought Leadership Pieces
Sessions will comprise generative short exercises, collaborative close readings, peer and instructor workshops and curated lessons built around a diverse range of source material, from op-eds and essays to artist statements and criticism.
You'll learn how to frame your ideas, incorporate background material and research, and declutter your writing of cliches and jargon in a creative, supportive environment. 5 spots left!
I love telling people's stories, and while I can do that working for a traditional media outlet, I wanted to create a space where I can offer more personalized, tailored feedback. Writing helps me think, process, create and dream, and I want to impart the lessons I've learned from journalism and creative writing to other professionals. I believe that AI is a powerful tool, but it’s no substitute for nuance, voice, style and critical thinking.
I started my career 15 years ago as a reporter for the New York Daily News, and most recently I led journalism-skills trainings and edited contributor content for Forbes. I hold an MFA from Columbia University, where I was awarded a fellowship to teach undergraduate writing. I have also taught writing and journalism at Borough of Manhattan Community College and The School of the New York Times. I aim to foster a dynamic, inclusive environment for writers of all ability levels and stages.
