I'm subletting my private 450 sq foot Bushwick painting studio from May 15 - August 15. The studio is on the second floor of a well maintained industrial artist building, literally around the corner from the Jefferson L subway stop. With high tin ceilings, wood floors, and a wall of west-facing windows, the studio gets beautiful light throughout the day and sunset views at dusk. There is an in-unit AC unit that keeps the studio cool throughout the summer, and electricity and internet are included in the rent. There is also access to a freight elevator, communal spray booth and wood shop on the floor, as well as a bathroom and slop sink. The building is accessible 24/7 and the floor is artist run and tight-knit.
The inner rectangular working space of the studio has two long walls, each running 22 feet, a wall of windows, and measures 17 feet wide. This working space will be cleared of artwork and supplies, leaving only the furniture (couch, desk/work table, rolling painter's palette, and small table). In the foyer to the space there is a mini fridge and small kitchen which you may feel free to use, and I have discounted the rent to account for using a portion of the foyer to store my paintings packed along the wall, while I am away.
There are a number of lighting options in the studio, including clip lights with a high CRI index at 5000K as well as tube lighting, making for excellent lighting at any time of day or night with accurate color.
I have been in this studio for the past 4 years and treasure the space. The studio is step up so that a painter can get to work immediately, and the proximity to the Jefferson L stop and size of the space make it an excellent location for studio visits.
Rent includes all utilities: electric and wifi, AC. Not suitable for music/band practice, no dust, and no living.
I am a painter and adjunct faculty at The New School. I love my studio and am looking to sublet to someone responsible, considerate and respectful who will use and care for the space while I am away this summer.
