I'm moving from Seattle to New York next month, so I need to find some roommates! I'm not too picky but my ideal place would be furnished, 6-12 month lease, <$1300/month, with good transportation links to Downtown Brooklyn. I’d like space for a bed, a desk and some bookshelves but don’t need much more than that.
I plan to study from home most mornings, work most afternoons, and be out taking classes, exploring the city and meeting new people most evenings, so somewhere that’s quiet during the day but friendly and sociable on the weekends would be great.
My flight is booked for January 24th, but I’m obviously willing to start a couple weeks before or after that.
My name is Connor (he/him/his); I’ll be 25 in April. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a geology degree a few years back, but recently I’ve gotten really interested in better understanding the effects of contemporary technology on our society and exploring ways of building a more human world. I’m moving to New York to make a career out of this interest. I plan to start this journey by studying and working with the Strother School of Radical Attention in Brooklyn; they’re a non-profit experimenting with different ways of resisting the exploitation of our attention by social media and advertising companies.
I tutor high school students right now, mostly math and chemistry, and I plan to keep doing that in New York. I’m interested to see if learning more about attention can help my students gain a greater appreciation for what they’re learning.
I’m a pretty decent cook (I used to cook at an Italian restaurant), love seeing independent cinema, did a lot of Olympic-style weightlifting in college, and love to listen to people talk about their interests.
If it sounds like I might be a good match, I’d love to set up a phone call to get to know you better!
