About This Lister

It's a family apartment. Members of our family have contributed furniture/artwork and stayed in the apartment when in town for over 45 years. The comedic director Mel Brooks had it before us. The family's always been leaseholders but with a special provision, permitting paying houseguests.

Do not miss this opportunity, if you can possibly afford it, to be inspired by a singular, special piece of classic New York in a location that is possibly the best mixture of all that the City offers, even in this dark period. Since our dad first rented this apartment over 50 years ago, the family has kept the space and always hung out here when in town. However, the rent keeps going up to the point where it will be unaffordable to us, lost to you, and locked forever in some finance-type's iron-grip fairly soon.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

I am the long-term tenant with written permission to sublet.

Rental requirements

Here is the procedure if you want to rent the apartment (*please* -- you must read this all the way through or any inquiry will be automatically screened out):

Available during the the nights listed. There is also a charge for cleaning, normally $99, upon exit (and twice/month for longer stays).

To reserve the space, you will need to pay half of the $1K security deposit and sign&send-back the two-page house-guest rental agreement/receipt.

The rental deposit balance is returned within 72 hours (usually in less than 24 hours, but I'm accounting for weekends) after departure with 4% p.a. interest.

Rate is net, for 2 people, and not negotiable. You can pay the balance when you are inside the apartment but before you receive any keys.

Academy-award-winning playwright, world-famous actor/director, down-to-Earth fine writers, painters, and documentarists have been valued guests over the last 28 years.

We are happy to provide a video tour. Open to accommodating showings from serious guests after details are agreed upon but before any money has passed hands. If showing times don't match, let us connect you with past house-guests plus links to nearly 50 reviews across multiple sites and covering 28 years of rentals.

Lastly, to pass an automated email filter, please put in your *first line* exactly the following phrase in all caps: "I HAVE READ ALL RENTAL REQS."
