Yooo! I'm renting out my 2nd bedroom in an apartment on Roosevelt Island starting 12th January 2025. It's a spacious renovated apartment with: hardwood flooring, full kitchen, living/dining room, lots of light, has a great view of Manhattan, and no adjoining neighbours! The building is conveniently located in “the canyon” just 11 minutes walk (or 7 minutes free bus) from the subway (F train - 1 stop to Lexington Av/63 St), 2 stops to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av), the RI tram (to 60 St-2 Av), and the NYC Ferry (Astoria route). It’s also very close (13 minutes walk or 7 minutes free bus) to Cornell Tech.
The available room comes furnished with: a queen bed; nightstand and lamp (with smart bulb); a 40” Roku TV; and a huge closet (with a built-in organiser); by mid-January: a sit-stand desk, ergonomic chair, and 27” monitor for your WFH needs. The room gets good natural light from the north. You'll have your own private bathroom with a bathtub/shower as well!
The building includes use of a residents’ lounge, has full-time doormen, multiple laundry rooms, a bike room, and a package room. There’s also an option to subscribe to our gym & indoor pool.
Note:
- No in-unit laundry, unfortunately (see above)
- No couples allowed
- No pets allowed (service animals okay!)
- No combustible smoke or hard drugs (building rules)
What I'm looking for in a housemate:
- I’m 35, so around my age?
- Open to all genders/sexes/sexual orientations
- Must love dogs!!!
- Sociable (no hermits!)
- Communicates well with neurodivergent people
- Left-leaning political & sociological mindsets
- Clean and tidy (keep your mess in your room!)
- Willing to share your food (from time to time; if you’re already cooking)
- Willing to pop round the pub for a pint or two every so often
I've lived with various people before, so I'm pretty easygoing. As long as you: are clean like me, don't hide in your room when you’re home, didn’t vote for Trump, we should get along well.
Bonus points if you: think Linux/*nix are the better OSes, don’t trust any political officer, socialism isn’t a scary word to you, agree that men shouldn’t make decisions for women, believe that travelling to Canada or Mexican resorts don’t really count as travelling, feel that animals are better than humans
I'm looking to create a warm environment, not just share a living space, as “this is a home, not a hostel!”
If you're interested, please book a video call or physical meeting using my calendar link below. We must see first if we'd be a good fit together!
I'm a 35 year-old guy working in cloud tech, with a friendly 12 year-old service dog (he’s moving in at the end of March). I work from the living room on the weekdays in spurts and am usually home. I do sometimes travel deeply, so when I’m gone, it might be for a month or so each time. I enjoy technology, dogs, emo/pop punk/indie rock/indie pop music, eating out at restaurants, quiet bars, stand-up comedy (especially crude humour), deep conversations, talking with my family, and have some special interests in medical science, law, urban planning, social policy, and human rights. I'm not big on anything visual (like TV or movies or art), know anything about sports or exercise, but I do enjoy a good beer and a decent walk to explore the area.
