The rundown: Fully-furnished 1.5 bedroom sublet / A, C, G trains 1 block away / 15 mins to Manhattan / Dishwasher / French doors / Laundry and live-in super / Queen bed / Very clean / Rent due up front + $700 security deposit / Fast Wifi included, subletter pays electricity and gas / Dates relatively flexible
I absolutely cherish this large 1 bedroom on the third floor of an elegant prewar elevator building with 24-hour doorman. The space is massive, beautiful, gets tons of natural light throughout the day, and is great for work-from-home, hosting friends, or just hanging out. Laundry room with washers/dryers is on the ground floor of the building. I’m pretty flexible in terms of scheduling: could do a sublet for the first week/two of the month or for the full duration of my trip (open to extending your stay by a few days too). Pets are not allowed in the building.
I'm pursuing a Ph.D. in Architectural History and will be traveling to visit family and do research over the holidays. I live alone but the space generously hosts a couple. The bedroom is large: queen-size bed, Frette sheets and towels, half-wall closet, as well as an antique dresser for additional storage. There's also a large closet in the entry foyer. The bathroom has marble tiled floors and a soaking tub. This apartment also has the advantage of self-regulating heat, so you’ll always be able to change the temperature according to your preference.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, stainless steel appliances, and is stocked with coffee, tea, and lots of cooking equipment. I cook a lot and you're more than welcome to use the pantry and provisions. In the adjacent dining area, the large book-matched burl dining table was handmade for me by friends, a pair of local architects, who also made the onyx desk in the office area. I found the leather/chrome dining chairs, vintage circa 1970, in Italy; the rugs and pottery are antiques from Georgia; and I designed and built the wooden bookcase myself; the leather couch is vintage de Sede. There's also a delightful fire escape just off the dining room.
The large workspace includes a printer, which you’re welcome to use. Artworks on the walls are by friends or related to various exhibitions I've organized at MoMA, the Venice Biennale, and elsewhere. The living room overlooks a quiet, leafy street of historic brownstones—it has a delightful treehouse feel.
Great restaurants and bars, one of the best bakeries in NYC around the corner, 24-hour groceries, walking distance to Fort Green Park and Brooklyn Academy of Music. The neighborhood is fun and family friendly, and very walkable.
