Hello! I'm a podcast producer based in Brooklyn and will be renting an apartment at the beach in the Rockaways for the summer, so I need to find a responsible tenant to enjoy my Gowanus apartment while I'm away.
The apartment is the full 2nd floor (up one flight of stairs) of a building conveniently located on 3rd Avenue near President Street - one block from the R train at Union Street. There's one large and one small bedroom and a large open living/kitchen area. The second bedroom has been turned into a home office with a nice, long custom desk a friend built for me and a big set of shelves for storage. In the pics you'll see a Peleton bike but I hope to take that with me, so there's plenty of space for an air mattress if you ever wanted to host a guest. Overall I'd say this is a great space for a single person who works from home (like me!) or a couple.
Both bedrooms get wonderful morning/early afternoon sun (East facing). I generally get rave reviews on the comfort and design of my place :)
I love to cook, so I have a fully stocked kitchen, a Sodastream and multiple ways to make coffee. I've never been a microwave person, so no microwave, but there's a toaster oven. Basically I'm happy to leave as much or as little of my things as you'd like.
I have a TV w/ a Roku that is signed in to basically every streaming service if that's a thing you care about and there's also a record player with a small vinyl collection for your enjoyment. If you are musical, I have several ukeleles and a guitar that you are welcome to play around with.
There's only one other apartment in the building (the third floor) and the tenant is a friend - AND the manager of the bar that happens to be downstairs. I generally don't have a problem with bar noise, but the apartment is on a busy street. I have white noise machines in both bedrooms that do the trick for me. Also, there are window AC units in the front and rear of the apartment, so if it's a warmer month, the sound of the fan or AC on usually drown out any noise. The bonus is that you get a 50% discount on your bar tab for being a neighbor - it's a very friendly spot where all the bartenders and regulars know me (Basically the TV show "Cheers"). There's no laundry in the building, but there is a nice laundromat a block away.
I love the neighborhood! The R train at Union is one block away. 3 incredible restaurants within a block, great coffee shops within 2, Whole Foods 3 blocks away. Easy walk into Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill.
A dog normally lives in the space, but I'll be hiring a cleaner to deep clean before your move in. I'd love for you to water my plants (nothing crazy or complicated - there are just a lot of them). If you don't want that responsibility, I can try to take as many with me as I can.
I will be away May-September and would love to find someone to rent that whole time, but am flexible to anything one month or longer. Would consider a lower rate for a full 5 month stay. Rent includes all utilities (wifi, electric, gas).
Reach out and I will be happy to tell you more!
Best,
Sam
I'm a 42-year-old podcast producer who has rented this apartment for 7.5 years. My landlord doesn't mind me subletting when I travel - and I like knowing the space won't be sitting empty while I'm away! I absolutely love my home and have put a lot of time and energy into decorating the space to be a reflection of my self and style. I work from home a lot of the week, so it's a comfortable space for both work and relaxing. I will connect you with the upstairs neighbor in case you need anything - she's a friend and is often around because she manages the bar downstairs.
