Are you a homeowner or a tenant in need of a plant care-taker while you're away? NYC transplant seeking my final NYC home before heading back to Europe.
Hi!
I've been living in NYC for the past 2 and something years and have been loving it. The current administration makes it hard for me to stay (I'm an academic) so I am living my final few months in the country. As a way of preparing my next adventure (read: while I look for a job elsewhere), I'm looking into ways that I could live with as little costs as possible before I move back to Europe in August. This is where you come in!
Stories of people housesitting beautiful brownstones in Brooklyn have circulated around me for a while. Yet, I've not come across one myself! Perhaps you, reading this, are a homeowner and are going to be away between May and August? or perhaps you won't be away but you do have an extra room you wouldn't mind filled in? I'm looking at any sweet opportunity that would enable me to enjoy my last few months in the city while also acknowledging the economic turmoil we're getting into and the need for me to figure out my next move.
About the space I'm looking for (bear in mind I am open to discuss most of these aspects):
- Warm, sunlit room in Brooklyn (Prospect Heights, Bed-Stuy or western Brooklyn preferred)
- A flexible 3 month sublet (my final stay in the USA!)
- Nicely furnished with a double bed, spacious closet, chest of drawers, and shelves
- Access to a desk somewhere in the home
- Must have washing machine (and preferrably a dishwasher)
- Bonus for outdoor space!
- Proximity to Park Slope Food Coop is a big plus!
About the home environment (note: I am open to both a houseshare or a housesitting situation):
- Looking for a true home vibe, not just roommates sharing utilities
- Open to sharing meals and watching films together
- Clean living spaces (especially kitchen and bathroom)
- A peaceful retreat from city life where kindness and interdependence are central
- Occasional visits from my friends are okay (never bringing the party home)
- Cat-free due to allergies (though I love them!), but dog-friendly
- I will be traveling domastically here and there, and therefore cannot be dogsitting 100% of the time.
I'm a warm, curious, very clean, early thirties female who grew up in Brussels. I speak a few languages, and French is my native tongue. I got my PhD in Urban and Social Geography in the UK where I have lived for many years before moving to NYC. I love reading, writing, hiking, cycling, a sourdough and olive oil + orange wine combo, fostering family and friends relationships. I also occasionally teach yoga and am offering reiki on an ad hoc basis. Vibes with me are generally calm.
If you have anything that could support both of our situations, or know someone who'd be looking for a housesitter, send them my way!
A bientôt,
km
