Seeking a furnished two-bed in Arverne, Arverne-by-the-Sea, or Rockaways within walking distance of the beach (surf beaches a plus) and basic services. A/C, washer/dryer, wifi strongly preferred; at least one workspace and outdoor space would be great, but if these aren't possible, that's not a deal-breaker.

We would also be open to two separate furnished casita-style beach huts or studios (kitchen needed in at least one), particularly if they are located close to one another.

Dates listed are provisional; we're open to different summer dates after mid-June and before September. Ideally looking for a consecutive month in the same place, but would also be open to two/three-week stays. We're flexible!

About This Lister

We're two writers (one literary translator, one journalist) in our 40s, longtime friends based in Brooklyn. Last year, we spent a month in Arverne and it was so great that we're hoping to do it on an annual basis. We love the area—Beach 67, Edgemere Farms, Arverne Cinema, and the Rockaways Farmers Market were highlights for us last year, as was kayaking in the bay and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge a bit further afield. One of us is learning to surf, the other (who grew up in the desert) started sea swimming while living in Iceland. We both love the ocean and the beach and want to have the chance to spend as much time near both this summer as we can.

One or both of us will likely be working remotely for at least part of the time, which is why a small workspace would come in handy. We're quiet, tidy, and will be respectful of your space and neighbors. We're not looking to throw any huge parties, although we might be joined by partners and/or one or two friends a few times throughout our stay.

I know that summer rates are high in the Rockaways, but we are trying to keep this under $4000 for the month, if we can. (If you have something that fits the bill but is over this amount, let me know and we'll see what's possible.) We're both attentive plant parents and animal (especially dog) lovers, so we'd also be happy to work out a plant/pet-sit arrangement or similar as a way to offset the monthly rent. An apartment swap with a 1-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn that is less than 10 minutes from Prospect Park, many restaurants, bars, and shopping, may also be a possibility if that would be of interest.
