I am subletting my prime-location UWS studio apartment from the end of November till the end of April or May (somewhat flexible in terms of dates, and there might be a possibility of renewal). Please note that I am not interested in subletting for a shorter term.
The studio is furnished and is located on the top floor of a well-kept apartment building (there is an elevator). It’s in mid-West 80s and Riverside Drive. I can see sunsets over the Hudson right from my windows! There’s lots of natural light, lots of sun during the day. I love watching thunderstorms over the Hudson, too – it’s so dramatic! My desk faces the window, and I can watch the sky over the river while I work. I work remotely and really enjoy working from here. I love my studio and am hesitant to sublet it out, but need to travel and can’t afford letting it stay vacant for so long.
Upper West Side is a cozy neighborhood, very green and with charming architecture (Google the name of the architect Clarence True). Riverside Park is less than 1 min away from the front door, Central Park – a 12 mins walk away. Two blocks from Broadway, three from Amsterdam Avenue with all the shops and restaurants. Minutes from several subway lines (1 is the closest, 2 and 3 nearby. B and C near Central Park), there are also several convenient buses. Citibike station is very close to the building, and you can bike uptown or downtown along the Hudson using bike lanes, or go bike in Central Park. It’s a super convenient location - I just walk everywhere on foot!
There is a TV set, but I don’t pay for the cable - I just stream movies on Netflix, HBO, etc. by connecting the TV to my computer. There is also a smart lights system. The studio has a kitchen with a fridge, a gas stove and a microwave (no dishwasher). The laundry room with washing and drying machines is located in the basement of the building. No window AC: I just use a floor AC and a window fan. There is a large desk and a full-size bed. The studio has hardwood floors.
I have lots of books – anthropology, history, gender studies, political theory, some fiction and books on writing.
I am a cultural anthropologist and a college professor. I am a world traveler and spend a lot of time visiting different countries and learning about new cultures. I love theatre, literature and the arts. NYC has been my home base for the past 18 years.

The studio isn’t large and is best suited for just one person. Looking to sublet to a single person – someone responsible, tidy and tranquil, who will be respectful of the space and the neighbors. Please no partying. No pets are allowed, and there is a strict no smoking policy in this building. Please write to me about yourself – what you do, what your situation is, and why you are looking to sublet. I can show the apartment in the afternoons or in the evenings.
Will ask for one-month rent upfront plus a one-month security deposit. Gas, hot water and heating are included. You’ll be responsible for paying the electric bill (the sum depends on the usage) and wi-fi ($90 a month). Rent would be due on the 25th day of the previous month for the next month (e.g., on January 25th for the month of February, etc). You’ll need to sign a document saying you agree to sublet the space for x dates for x price, and agree to cover any damages.
