This is a role that requires a candidate with strong interpersonal skills and a sense of hospitality. Much about the position is making writers from around the world, who are working in different languages and cultural contexts, feel welcome in a residency environment. The program director also maintains relationships with several stakeholders including: publishing guests who make professional visits; outside organizations that partner with Art Omi to bring writers to the program; and an advisory board, which works with the director on outreach and fundraising.

Time commitment varies throughout the year: Writers Residency Program dates are Spring (late March through May) and Fall (September through the third week of November.) During these sessions, the program director will stay onsite at Art Omi for three to four days per week. During the off-season, December through March, there is administrative work managing outreach, selection process, and preparing for the upcoming residency, all of which can be done remotely and averages 2.5 days per week.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Outreach for international applicants.
- Selection process. Oversee the application process including: updating the portal annually; assisting applicants with questions; securing jurors; and overseeing the selection process.
- Incoming resident communication prior to the residency.
- Visitors Program - Invite and host visitors from the literary field.
- Manage residency logistics: communicate with caterer; manage and MC public reading events; manage program budget; with staff support, manage stipends, travel reimbursements, and coordinate with alumni-in-residence.
- Liaise with an advisory board of professionals from the literary field.
- Fundraising - manage relationships with current sponsors and assist in identifying new sources of support.

A successful candidate will have:
- Familiarity with world literature and the U.S. publishing industry.
- A network or access to new networks of potential guests from the literary world.
- A strong commitment to Art Omi’s mission, working to advance its position within the field, and an ability to advocate effectively for the organization and its goals in professional and social settings.

Schedule & Compensation:
Part-time, year-round

ONSITE
Writers Residency Program dates are Spring (late March through May) and Fall (September through third week of November.) During these sessions, the program director will stay onsite at Art Omi for three to four days per week, including at least one weekend day and night.

Days onsite include designated “office hours” where the program director is available to residents. Dinner is spent with residents, including visitor introduction and presentation before dinner on weekends. The rest of the day is available for one’s own work.

OFF SITE (REMOTE)
December through March, off-season administrative work averages about 2.5 days per week, working remotely.

Annual Salary $34,000
