Seeking a female roommate, for one spacious room in a great 3 bedroom Fort Greene Duplex for a one year lease. This house has enjoyed a very harmonious roommate situation over the last few years and we want to keep it that way. One of our roommates is moving in with her significant other and hence this search.
The Apartment:
A duplex with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a brownstone. The incredibly nice and responsive Landlords live downstairs. Dishwasher and appliances in kitchen, laundromat on the next block. Large open kitchen. The apartment is smoke and pet free.
The Room:
One very large, spacious unfurnished studio sized room on the 2nd floor. The bathroom for this room is also on 2nd floor shared with a female roommate. The room has a large closet and 3 windows. Previous roommates have fit a queen sized bed, desk, dressers, couch, TV, and lounge chair. It really is like having your own studio with a separate kitchen.
The Neighborhood:
The historic Fort Greene neighborhood is one of the nicest in the city. The house is 2 min from C and G trains and 7-8 min from Atlantic Terminal and the LIRR, 2,3,4,5,N,Q,R,B,D trains, near the BAM, incredible cafes, bars and restaurants, a bookstore, 24 hr groceries and a Whole Foods. One block from Fort Greene Park.
About you:
Female. You keep a clean kitchen and bathroom, and have proof of income that indicates you can meet the rental terms. This has been a hard working, clean, culturally inclined, liberal, professional household and has been especially good for people with demanding jobs. We would like to find someone, who like us, has an active life outside the home. No couples unfortunately.
The Roommates:
1 program coordinator, and 1 transportation planner, both female
About us:
We are two women in our late 30s to mid 40s. One is originally from Sweden, one originally from Westchester County, NY. We have both been living in Brooklyn for about a decade. We get along great and want our new roommate to feel the same. We have full time jobs that are hybrid. We prefer the roommate to have a similar situation. Our interests are varied, we are culturally inclined, liberal, enjoy going to the movies, theatre, live music and comedy shows. We are also fitness enthusiasts and enjoy outdoor activities and travel. We have found things remain very amicable and friendly when there is generosity towards roommates and shared but easy responsibility of the house and kitchen, which is already very well set-up.
Over the last few years the apartment has been a good home to people who might work long hours (or not) and want a peaceful, drama free retreat. There is an open kitchen and we do cook, but not extensively and want to maintain that dynamic. We prefer that late night cooking of meals, past 10:00 pm or so, be very occasional. If cooking late meals are a routine part of your lifestyle, this house, unfortunately, may not be the right fit for you.
Tenant
The Terms:
The rent is $1717 + utilities. Heat, hot water, and gas included in rent. Utilities average around $100-$150/month over the year and include internet and electricity, all evenly split by three regardless of individual use. For the month of April you will pay $1600 in rent after which the rent goes up to $1717 on May 1, 2025.
The room is available beginning April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 for a year's lease. Starting date could be somewhat flexible - by a few days. The room is available unfurnished. You should be willing to sign a lease along with us the other 2 roommates. Landlord requests a couple of references and proof of income (W-2, paystubs, or letter from employer, etc.).
Move-in = First month rent + deposit (1600+1717)
We will be reviewing responses over the next few days and then will reach out starting around March 10 to schedule viewings of the space.
