Hey all,

For several years now, I’ve rented out my beautiful second bedroom here in Bed Stuy, sometimes choosing to go in a week-to week, month-to month, short-term direction, at other times favoring more permanent arrangements. As is true with most things in life, there are upsides and downsides to both ways of going about things, and because I’m undecided as to how I want to organize my life this spring and summer, I’ve posted two listings this week; one in the category of "rooms for rent" (its heading is “Beautiful lofted Bedroom on a Gorgeous Brooklyn Block”) and this one here.

If you’re interested in finding a great spot to stay while visiting New York, or need somewhere to land so that you can search for a housing situation that isn't temporary (never easy to do from a distance), my enormous lofted bedroom is quiet, clean, and lovely. It’s outfitted with nice linens, a high-end mattress, a vintage kitchen table, writing desk, some simple chairs, and comes equipped with a mini-fridge, toaster oven, electric kettle, and coffeemaker, all of which help to make the space its own autonomous thing (a folding screen placed near the entryway to the common area makes entering and exiting the rest of the apartment discreet). There’s a private en-suite bathroom (deep tub, large window through which the sunset can be viewed, a waterfall shower-head), but mainly it’s just a nice room in a nice apartment on a truly beautiful block. Kitchen access is possible and something we can discuss and sort through in advance or as we go.

The apartment itself is located in the historic district of Bed-Stuy (referred to as Stuyvesant Heights), where the community is diverse, the trees meet in the middle of the street, and the subway is less than two blocks away. (And it’s a lovely walk, too, past front-stoop gardens and stately homes.) The A train is one that can be relied on to swiftly get to many parts of the city—it can deliver me to my downtown office in under twenty minutes—and it's also a great train for getting out to Rockaway Beach or to JFK, in the other direction. There's a Citi-bike dock around the corner, and street parking has never been a problem for me.

The room really would be a wonderful place to get one's bearings, so I encourage you to check out that other post of mine to learn more about the space and about me, and hope you make contact.

About This Lister

I’m on the editorial staff of The New Yorker—our set-up is currently hybrid—and also a writer on the last phase of a book I’m under contract to deliver, so my days here are focused and subdued. I'm very clean, pretty quiet, but also a middle-aged surfer (I grew up on the coast of California) who loves to cook for my family and friends when it's time to get away from too many sentences and too many screens.

(There's more about who I am in my other post.)
