Size

160 sq. ft.

Enjoy a fully furnished large apartment share - with great light and views facing east, west and north.

Rent a 160 SF furnished BEDROOM. Additionally, you have a private, separate, small furnished OFFICE or STUDY - for your personal use only. Share home with two roommates. There is one bathroom, with a huge clawfoot tub!

This listing is for ONE PERSON. No pets.

Rent includes utilities.

Rental available beginning:
May 1, 2025.

A year-long rental is preferred. Open-ended rental possible if a good fit. Six months considered. It is a month-to-month arrangement regardless of the length of stay. We will have a sub tenant agreement stating the terms.

A COUPLE IS A POSSIBILITY as another furnished bedroom is opening up end of May 2025. A couple would have a higher rent and only one roommate - who is almost never there. See note below.

NO PETS - one person is allergic.
NO SMOKING. NO DRUGS. NO SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR PARTYING. Dinner parties and special occasions are fine to celebrate! It is a lovely space for intimate gatherings.

HOME:

Pre-war fourth floor walk-up with high ceilings and lots of great views. Top floor. Laundry nearby, not in building. A bike may be kept in the lobby - depending on how crowded it is already. Fire hazard concern.

BEDROOM:

Includes an antique full-size 4-poster bedroom set with a covered Tulo memory foam mattress, tall dresser, vanity & bench, bedside table, metal closet, bookshelf, clothes rack and a very large window facing east with a fire escape. The clothes rack can be stored in apartment if not needed.

From your bed, bask in the morning sun and view. Hear birds chirp and watch the sun and the moon rise from the big windows in the bedroom and kitchen. I absolutely love the window features of this apartment! Watching the beauty of the sky was a lifesaver for me during the initial months of the pandemic shutdown.

The last two photos show sunrise and daytime views from the bedroom window. Responsibly use the fire escape as your personal morning sundeck if desired.

OFFICE:

A small, separate private furnished office - for your personal use only - includes a writing table, small chest of drawers, shelves, lamps, and chair. And more bookshelves with my books.

Enjoy a northern view of the neighborhood and downtown Brooklyn through large window with soft reflected light as you study, do Zoom calls, or work on projects no louder than conversational level.

LIBRARY:

Enjoy a large library and CD collection throughout the apartment - that may be used responsibly and properly returned.

LIVING ROOM:

A sweet space to do yoga, write, relax and read. Watch gorgeous sunsets through large bay windows in the living room. The piano is not played often and is not in great shape. It can be used as agreeable to roommates. There are a Roku TV and a stereo also not used often.

One roommate has a bedroom next to the living room so you need to be conscientious about noise volume and time of day if using the living room, and when coming in and out of the front door. That front bedroom is the one also being vacated, not pictured here.

KITCHEN:

Cook and enjoy the eat-in kitchen with a walk-in pantry. Includes a microwave, toaster, blender, electric tea kettle, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. Please use responsibly and clean up after yourself after cooking. If you break it, please replace it.

THE VIBE:

Sublet from me - and live with two other sub-tenants. Currently, two guys have been here since 2021, and the woman leaving these two rooms has been there for nearly a year.

One of the guys is also leaving in May 2025, so there will be the other room mentioned opening up at the end of May 2025.

Have a friend looking too? Let me know! There is no private office with the other bedroom. It is a bit smaller with two large north facing windows, and is furnished with a full size futon bed, a love seat and built in drawers and shelves.

ONE POSSIBILITY as mentioned - I COULD CONSIDER A COUPLE:

I could consider a couple who are able to pay a total of $2000, including utilities. Then I would not rent out the front bedroom when my roommate leaves in May 2025 and you could use the front bedroom as an additional office or study, meditation or guest room.

The roommate who is staying is away more often than he’s home so it would feel more like your own home as a couple. He is a gentle, creative and spiritual soul who is friendly and communicative, and works in film and photography.

In this home, we respect privacy, cleanliness and clear communication. It’s not a bro house or a sports house or a party house. It’s not much of a communal hang vibe. It is mature adults enjoying the peace of their home, living in a refuge from the chaotic NYC life.

We prefer a peaceful environment in the home, while the outside contributes to the awesome “Center of the Universe” New York ambience - with literally everything you need at your finger tips. I LOVE this neighborhood!

The apartment is large so it’s easy to share space, do your own thing, and not feel crowded. The understanding is to keep the apartment neat.

CLEANLINESS:

Always clean up after yourself in the shared spaces - kitchen, bathroom and living room - and share in all house chores. Or share hiring a housekeeper. No one is a neat freak, and no one wants to see anybody else’s mess left around anywhere either.

We typically use environmentally friendly products, recycle and sometimes compost. There are a few plants and more are welcome!

THE NABE:

We are across the street from the 2/3 trains at Bergen Street and walking distance to Prospect Park, Barclays Center, other subway lines, restaurants, laundry, groceries, Fort Greene Park, yoga, gyms, BAM, the Brooklyn Museum, the Botanic Garden, the main library, and anything else you may need. Grab the Long Island Rail Road nearby for easy beach getaways and access to JFK airport.

Pop downstairs and enjoy a coffee shop, bagel shop, cocktail bar, sushi, pizza, Chinese food, Southwestern food, Middle Eastern food, hair salon, sports bar and more. Citibikes are nearby, as is a bicycle shop. Walking distance to Atlantic Mall, Whole Foods, Apple Store, and the great walking streets of 7th Avenue, 5th Avenue and Fulton Street.

This has been a wonderful neighborhood to be in for the 30 years I’ve had my home there. If you are looking for a great multicultural neighborhood, you found it.

A CAVEAT:

The pre-war apartment is on one breaker switch. You need to be careful if using an air conditioner or electric heater when someone is using appliances in the kitchen like the microwave or blender. It is very important to be careful not to flip the power off, especially as a roommate could be in the middle of uploading a project. If the power flips off you can turn it right back on, but you must be conscientious to not interrupt somebody else’s flow. If only one person is using an air conditioner, there is no problem

Lister's Relationship to the Space

I am the primary tenant - away indefinitely caregiving my parents out of state.

Rental requirements

THE BUSINESS:

First month’s rent and utilities of $1,200 and a deposit of $1,200 required = $2,400 to move in. This is the rate for ONE person moving into the bedroom and office pictured here.

That does not include the front bedroom not pictured, or a couple moving in. Those terms for a couple would be different, as noted previously, and would include the additional bedroom that will be available after May 2025.

We will sign a sub tenant agreement. Rent will be paid to me electronically a couple of business days prior to the 1st of each month ideally, so I can pay rent by the 1st.

I will need a copy of your ID, plus proof of income or bank statement.

Professional or scholastic, previous landlord, and personal or roommate references requested, plus a credit report, if available.

Please have all ready in case of mutual interest. Please share your vaccination status too.

THE SCREENING PROCESS:

AS I AM OUT OF STATE TAKING CARE OF MY PARENTS INDEFINITELY, we have a two-step process. I do the initial email screenings to answer any questions, then schedule interviews with likely candidates over Zoom or FaceTime. Depending on timing, we may skip this step and send you right to the apartment to see it and meet the roommates.

Otherwise, if mutually agreeable, I will connect you with my subtenants to meet them and see the apartment in person.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

If interested in this home, please write and share the following to be considered:

- Tell us about WHO YOU ARE and what you’re looking for;

- Tell us HOW this apartment suits you, and how you like to spend your time at home;

- Give an idea of what your typical weekly WORK SCHEDULE looks like - in and out of the home;

- Provide SOCIAL MEDIA and/or website link(s) for verification.

THE BUILDING:

The Landlord is responsive to the apartment needs and the building is well-maintained overall. The tenants in the other apartments are cool, mature creatives. It’s generally a chill building and a peaceful life here, plus the sounds of the city.

If this home isn’t for you, I wish you all the best finding your right spot. If all goes well, and you love the idea of living here, Welcome home!!
