Hello, I'm a native Californian and moved to NYC in 2019 to pursue a second career. I graduated in 2023 from the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.), where I earned a MA in Fashion, Textiles & Museum Practice (curatorial track). This is my second stint in NYC since I obtained my Ph.D in Health Psychology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

I am seeking preferably a short-term (3-6 months) or a long-term RENTAL, SUBLET, or HOUSESITTING opportunity. I need to move by Jan. 30, 2025 for a duration of 3-6 months, although dates can be flexible. The reason for the S/T rental is that I need to move back to my home state of Calif. I may stay in NY/NJ/CT area if something great emerges.

In a shared rental situation, I can pay up to $1,350 monthly maybe more, which depends on the number of roommates and amenities. Either a partially furnished or unfurnished room is workable. If the room is fully furnished, I will maintain my storage unit I have in the NY area. For a studio or living alone, I can pay $1,500.-$1,600.

I am paying rent for 3 storage units: 2 storage units in Calif., and 1 in the NY area, so I am seeking very reasonable rent. I am willing to do CLEANING, COOKING or PET CARE for reduced rent, or some type of exchange. I have an EXCELLENT RENTAL HISTORY of living in apartments 5-7 years. I have landlord and personal REFERENCES.

The BASICS that I need:
* PET.-FRIENDLY environment, which means liking cats.
My cat, Delilah is sociable, calm, sweet & a Vet said she
could be a "therapy animal." I hope you will welcome my
cat too!
* SMOKE-FREE (& Vaping) -Tobacco and Marijuana causes
headaches.
* SUBWAY/TRAIN- close walking distance.
* STREET PARKING- I have a car, so I need street parking.
* RECEIVING PACKAGES reliable delivery.

In a roommate situation, I am looking for an emotionally mature, quiet, clean, responsible, considerate and friendly person(s) that are communicative. HONESTY is important, where any bills would be split 50/50 (or proportion # roommates), and not to be charged more. No loud music or late parties on a frequent basis. I see my space as a sanctuary, so I'd like to create a positive and warm home environment.

Please NO undisclosed "ODDITIES" (i.e. no mailbox, no closets, no doors; no stove, no heat, significant construction in apt undisclosed, etc.) unless it's clearly communicated BEFORE viewing. My time is extremely limited to secure a rental, so I would appreciate full, honest disclosure.

I am an honest, reliable, quiet, communicative, friendly, humorous and clean person. I am receptive to conversation, although I respect your privacy. I am a spiritually-minded person, where I prefer a healthy lifestyle & clean food. Some of my hobbies are attending various cultural events, such as museums, film, lectures, reading, baking, button and antique shows, vintage flea hunting, potting plants, outdoors (i.e. swimming & hiking). I grew-up in a liberally-minded family, and get along with people from diverse backgrounds.

Please email, call or text me to set-up viewings, questions or leads. I look forward to speaking and meeting with you!

About This Lister

I have practiced as a clinical and research psychologist in health psychology, neuropsychology and clinical psychology for many years in Calif. I have excelled in many respects. My work treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was published in the New Yorker magazine (5-19-08), L.A. Times and interviewed for the CNN Mental Health Special. My journey in developing a second career in fashion/textile history is aligned with my greatest passion, and core of my being. I hope to bring a psychological dimension to my research in the embodiment of embellished film costumes. My mind is scientific/analytic coupled with a natural artistic sensibility and instinct for color and design.

I come from a family, who has worked in the fashion and clothing industry, as well as art collecting of post-WWII abstract & modern art. My grandmother sewed Couture for Adrian, the MGM Costume designer, who is credited in creating the "Hollywood Glamour Look". My Father worked as a pharmacist, who instilled my curiosity and wonder into the complex universe of human physiology. My family is characterized by scientists and artists.

My LinkedIn profile name is Karen Perlman, Ph.D.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are a landlord, tenant, or have reliable leads even if you are not seeking a roommate. Thank-you!!!
