Unique simple living opportunity in Vermont May through September 2025. Escape the chaos of the times to live quietly in rural “Bernie-land” in exchange for 6 hours a week of labor. Person (or couple) must be ambulatory and some physical strength will be necessary.
Living arrangements include tenting in the woods or nearby field, a semi-private office, and a bathroom with washer, and dryer (also used by the owners). The small, semi-private office (8x12') can be used during the day and has easy access to the outdoors. It contains a desk, day-bed, and a small table. The bathroom is attached to the office. Also included are kitchen privileges and some shared meals.
Work projects range from land work (like clearing brush, lawn mowing) and basic carpentry. We will be completing a couple of renovation projects this summer with a contractor. We will be helping him to keep the costs down.
There are miles of trails through the woods and fields around us, a large open lawn, lots of blueberry bushes, and fruit trees. There is a cabin in the backyard that is used for writing retreats and as an Airbnb rental.
Our property is a mix of open fields and woods just a couple of miles from the amazing Green River Reservoir State Park. GRRSP offers the finest swimming and paddling in the state. We live quietly and savor Nature that surrounds us.
Located 4 miles from the nearest town Morrisville, has two big grocery stores, 3 pharmacies, 4 hardware stores, McDonalds, a few restaurants, etc.
We’re in our early sixties and work mostly from home and we want to share the gifts of our land with those who will appreciate them. And, in exchange, we’re excited to benefit from a respectful, reciprocal relationship that shares the labor of land stewardship.
We’re a heterosexual couple in our early sixties and work mostly from home. Gerette (she/her) is an author and works in the cult recovery space. Frederic (he/him) is a therapist and crisis clinician. We love our privacy and we will respect yours. We also love our home and feel privileged to have cared for it over the last 35 years. Our daughter and grandson live out of state, but will be here for a few weeks this summer to run their wilderness canoe camp. While they are here, there will be extra activity but there's plenty of room for everyone.
Since we have experienced some financial challenges over the years our house and cabin have not received the level of maintenance that is ideal. Today, we are able - and need to - invest our time in the care and maintenance of the house, which in turn will reduce the amount of time that we have in caring for the land. This is why we are seeking a creative exchange for this coming summer. We are open to discovering the endless possibilities ahead.
We want to share the gifts of the land we steward with those who will appreciate them. We’re very excited to benefit from a respectful, reciprocal relationship that will support flourishing for the land, the buildings, and within each of us who live here.
We live here full time.
Two references are required.
Although there won't be an actual lease, we will want a signed agreement, including a release of liability.
Note: the 'rent' is listed as $10. What we expect in exchange for this unique living opportunity is 6 hours of manual labor a week. If a couple is interested, we would expect 6 hours of work from each of them or a total of 12 hours a week.
You can bring your own tent or we can discuss the option of using one of ours. This would require an additional agreement and a security deposit of $300.
The owners of the property will be showing the space and handling all communications.
No cats. We are open to having one dog on the property, but not in the house. Because of the cabin in the shared backyard and and neighbors who frequently walk on the property, the dog must be friendly to human and fellow canines alike.
