Hi! I'm a set designer heading to the UK for a long-term gig, and I'm offering my beloved private studio at Hot Wood Arts for sublet. Located on the waterfront of vibrant Red Hook, Brooklyn, the studio is available from June 2nd through July 9th—perfect for artists, designers, writers, or makers looking for a creative workspace.

The studio is private, cozy, and furnished with shelves, tables, and a collection of books and handy tools that you're welcome to use during your stay. I'm discounting the rental rate because my belongings will remain in the space, so it won't be empty—ideal if you appreciate a setup that's ready to go. Of course, I can pack things neatly to give you space to rearrange or bring your own gear if preferred.

You'll be part of the fantastic Hot Wood Arts community, home to 18 resident artists working across various disciplines like painting, sculpture, mixed media, and set design. Enjoy access to a communal woodshop. There’s also a kitchen, bathroom with slop sink, and a large communal lounge and work area with nice natural light and views of the waterfront. And don't miss out on our Tuesday drawing nights, a wonderful opportunity to unwind and connect with fellow artists!

The atmosphere at Hot Wood Arts is warm and supportive. Everyone here is friendly, approachable, and dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment. To keep this great vibe, it’s essential that the studio and shared areas stay clean and free from toxic or fume-producing materials.

The studio is on the second floor of a historic warehouse right by the water, which means you’ll get beautiful waterfront sunsets after work. There's a handy freight elevator for easy access, a cozy coffee shop right on the pier to keep your creative juices flowing, and Food Bazaar supermarket just across the street along with many other great restaurants and bars nearby.

About This Lister

I'm a scenic and production designer and concept artist based in Brooklyn, working primarily in film, TV, and theater. I'm traveling to the UK for a production of Hamlet, so my studio will be available from early April through early to mid-July (dates are flexible).

I've mainly used the studio for design-build projects, so there's a nice collection of tools and furnishings available for your use during the sublet.

The studio manager, Megan, is a wonderful person and a talented artist—she was extremely welcoming and made settling into the space feel seamless. She's always around for any questions or support.

I've had the studio for over half a year now, and I genuinely love it here. Spaces at Hot Wood Arts are typically grabbed quickly, so I felt incredibly lucky to secure mine. Plus, Red Hook itself is hugely inspiring—perfect for writers, artists, and makers of all kinds.
