Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated, active, and reliable Direct Service Provider to work with our
non-speaking young adult son with autism. This role focuses on supporting his independence,
facilitating daily activities, and ensuring his overall well-being.
About The Client:
Facilitated Communication (FC) is a cornerstone of his life, giving him a voice and enabling
meaningful self-expression. He specifically utilizes the STeP Supported Typing Program taught
by Abilis, which has been instrumental in allowing him to communicate effectively and engage
with the world around him. We are looking for someone who is already trained in this method or
willing to undergo training, as FC plays a vital role in his daily interactions and overall quality of
life.
Key Responsibilities:
●Provide support during scheduled activities, including community outings, recreational
events, and daily routines.
●Engage in activities such as hiking, weight lifting, and/or nature walks
●Use his supported typing program and Facilitated Communication methods to engage
and empower his communication.
●Collaborate with family members to follow individualized plans and achieve personal
goals.
●Ensure a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment at all times.
●Assist with light tasks as necessary to maintain organization and structure.
Qualifications:
●Prior experience working with individuals with autism or developmental differences is
highly preferred.
●Familiarity with Facilitated Communication and supported typing programs (especially
Abilis training) is a plus; willingness to be trained is required.
●Clean driving record and ability to drive as needed for activities.
●Energetic, patient, and compassionate personality with strong communication skills.
●Dependable, punctual, and professional.
